How we got our start?
In 1903, George âStormyâ Kromer, a baseball player and railroad engineer, kept losing his hat on the train. His wife, Ida, sewed an earband on a ball cap to keep it on his head. It worked. That cap started a line of quality clothing and gear that reflects the wit and grit of the upper Midwest.What makes our product unique?

Stormy Kromer began in 1903 as an in-home operation. After 16 years of high demand for George and Idaâs popular windproof six-panel cap, the couple opened their first factory in 1919. Since then, the company has grown exponentially, expanding their catalog along the way. Stormy Kromer leadership has maintained the vitality of the company's ongoing legacy by offering a multitude of sizes, colors, and styles while remaining true to producing high-quality products from start to finish.

Stormy Kromer is based in Ironwood, Michigan and headed by the Jacquart family â Bob and Denise, and daughters Gina and KJ. We have strong roots in Ironwood. In fact, several of our ancestors were among the pioneers who settled the town. Weâve opened and grown businesses here since the early 1900s. We guess you can say itâs in our blood. |
ManufacturingWhen you pop a Stormy Kromer cap on your head, youâre supporting American workers. Nearly all of our manufacturing is done in the USA. Those few items that arenât created here are made by carefully chosen partners who share our high standards for quality and ethics. Quality starts with materials and people. We search the globe for the most comfortable, durable fabrics and trim materials, and then we put them in the hands of our talented, capable craftspeople here in Michigan. From designers to cutters to sewing machine operators, our team is meticulous and experienced. |
